POSITION SUMMARY- AR Registered Nurse Licensure

A RN who, using the nursing process, develops a plan of nursing care and then coordinates and delivers care to patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures.  Circulators have the requisite skills and knowledge to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate the outcomes of interventions. The surgical nurse addresses the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual responses of surgical patients. Is responsible for meeting the established Surgical Standards of Nursing Practice (AORN) and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel within WRMC.  The position spends the majority of work time standing for prolonged period so time with frequent walking of short distances.  This position requires the ability to reach, bend, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.  The patient populations served in this department covers the full span of human life. This position is required to provide call and standby coverage on a rotating schedule for holidays, weekends and nights as assigned

SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS-

Arkansas RN Licenses Required, Previous experience in an operating room environment is preferred.  Basic competency is expected to be attained within 4-8 months as evidenced by 85% achievement in all areas of perioperative nursing.  Competency to assess the physiological and psychosocial health status of each surgical patient.  To formulate a nursing diagnoses, to establish patient goals, to develop  a plan of care, to implement nursing actions according to the prescribed plan.  To participate in patient/family teaching.  To create and maintain a sterile field, to provide equipment and supplies based on each patient’s needs.  To accurately perform sponge, sharps and instrument counts, to administer drugs and solutions as prescribed.  To physiologically monitor the patient during surgery, to monitor and control the environment and respect the patient’s rights.  To perform nursing actions that demonstrate accountability, evaluate outcomes, measure the effectiveness of nursing care and to continually reassess all components of patient care based on new data.
