POSITION SUMMARY This position, under close supervision of a licensed nurse, is responsible for assisting the nursing staff in caring for patients. Duties include vital signs, intake and output, bathing, hygiene, diet, and ambulation. This position has exposure to body fluids, radiation and communicable disease. The majority of work time is spent standing and/or walking of short distances, with frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 100 lbs., and occasional carrying of up to 25 lbs. A variety of patients are served including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, with adults and geriatrics being the majority of patients. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED CPR DESCRIBE THE SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION Effective communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions as usually demonstrated by the successful completion of high school studies (GED or equivalent experience). Familiarity with patient care procedures is required as usually demonstrated by completion of a nursing assistant training program or completion of a first semester of an accredited nursing program. State certification as a nursing assistant is encouraged, but not required. |
